Shake Roll
Naturally, our compassion goes out to the earthquake victims, to the victims of the mid-eastern social upheaval and repression, and the affected families in Wisconsin who are losing the freedom to negotiate with their governmental employer. We can stand by idly, waiting for the next cataclysm (either natural or political). But we can also stand up and be a part of the upcoming changes. Individually, we can each make a difference by doing our own part, however insignificant it may feel. Buried human emotions and suppressed freedom turn into acts of individual and political violence. Remember, it’s up to each and every one of us. We can feed into the denial and fear by turning our backs on reality and thinking that these global events have nothing to do with us personally. Or we can choose to make the world a better place by the little things we do every day. It’s up to us. The time is now. Astrologically, the action of planet Uranus is a lot a like lightning. It releases tensions wherever they have built up. During a storm, the lightning crackles, the thunder crashes, and the electrical spark reduces the charge between the negative and positive ions. It feels calm after a storm, even if there is destruction in its wake.
Earthquakes are peculiarly Uranian, and the recent 8.9 quake in Japan is no exception. Uranus is the planet of shocks and surprises. Recently, it has been traveling along with Jupiter, the planet of bigger, better and more. When these two giants get together we can expect a lot of rumbling … but not only in the earth. The recent people’s rebellions in Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain and Libya are all symptoms of the Jupiter-Uranus cycle.
Jupiter changes signs every year, and in mid-January it entered Aries, the first sign of the zodiac … and a powerful earthquake wreaked destruction on Christchurch, New Zealand. People in totalitarian dictatorships began to revolt, and with the use of social networking, the revolution spread. Revolution in the streets has even reached the normally quiet midwestern United States with occupation of the state capital building in Madison, Wisconsin. Things are heating up!
On Wednesday, March 9, Mercury the Messenger joined electrifying Uranus just hours prior to entering Aries. And on Friday, March 11, Uranus begins its seven-year stay in Aries. The Pacific ring of fire is on fire. The Japanese quake has been followed by more than twenty aftershocks of 5.5 or greater. Tsunami alerts have been issued. Volcanoes are erupting in northeastern Russia. The Indonesian island of Bali was rocked this week, too.
However, as bad as the physical destruction may be from an earthquake, it is the destruction caused by humans that we must consider. These astrological indicators are the opening of a door. We are moving into a period of high tension that will be accompanied by more and more global change. Uranus is now in action-oriented Aries. Uranus’ looming squares to potent Pluto in Capricorn (2012 - 2015) will be the backdrop of major events for the next five years.
